Dead Sea Scrolls Now Online

After 2000 years, the Dead Sea Scrolls have become available online. The famous manuscripts were discovered in 1947 in desert caves along the Dead Sea. They are believed to have belonged to the Essenes, an ascetic Jewish sect, and are mostly housed in Jerusalem’s Israel Museum. While the originals remain there in a special vault, the museum worked with Google and photographer Ardon Bar-Hama to provide extremely high-quality images of them using ultraviolet-protected flash tubes.

Five of the eight scrolls housed at Israel Museum since 1965 have been digitalized, including the Great Isaiah Scroll, the Temple Scroll and the War Scroll. The Great Isaiah Scroll can be searched by column, chapter and verse, including the famous “and the wolf shall dwell with the lamb.” It is accompanied by an English translation tool and includes an option for users to submit translations of verses in their own languages.

They are online here - http://dss.collections.imj.org.il/

Tunnel Trader The End

Well after sending my copy of Tunnel Trader back to the supplier I did get a full refund.  One thing to note is that no where in the book does it say where you have to send it back to, i ended up sending John Piper a e-mail, after the customer services e-mail account did not get a reply.  Well maybe this system will work for you but it didnt work for me.

Cisco Replace IOS With tftpdnld

Here is a quick and easy way to replace the IOS on your Cisco router, as long as the router supports tftpdnld.  Before you do this you will need a IOS BIN file, either from a original working router of the same model etc or from Cisco direct.    You can use this procedure if you need to replace your IOS with a new version or if it's become corrupt.   Please note there is different ways to replace and delete a IOS, this is the method I tend to use.
 Delete Current IOS

      1.       Before doing this backup your current config.

2.       From the Router# prompt or from ROMMON 1 > locate the name of your current IOS by doing a dir flash: this will show current IOS file name.

3.       Delete the IOS file, do del flash:filename.bin and press y to confirm

4.       Once you have done this do a dir flash: to list the flash directory you should no longer have a BIN file in this directory.

5.       Switch router off, and then back on again, it will now boot to ROMMON 1 >

Replace IOS

1.       Boot the router in ROMMON mode.  To do this power it up, and press CTRL and BREAK at same time, you will then get the ROMMON 1 > prompt.  If you have already deleted IOS it will just boot to ROMMON 1 > directly.

2.       Ensure that you have your TFTP server running and BIN file in your TFTP directory ready to upload.

3.       Once at the ROMMON prompt enter the following commands, line by line with your ip address details

IP_ADDRESS=192.168.174.250

IP_SUBNET_MASK=255.255.255.128

DEFAULT_GATEWAY=192.168.174.1

TFTP_SERVER=192.168.174.140

TFTP_FILE=c870-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T5.bin

tftpdnld

4.       Once you enter the last command you will see that your file should start to upload.

5.       When the file has loaded switch the router off and back on again and then you will have the new IOS.

Note : If you get an error about insufficient space, delete one of the TAR files from the Flash directory.

530 File System Returned An Error on FTP/FTPS

I'm currently setting up a FTPS server on IIS7 on Windows 2008 when I came across another error.
I am using the “FTP User Isolation” feature with “Username Physical Directory – Enable Global Virtual Directory’s” selected on IIS7 so each user has a home folder and it's quite easy to manage.

In my FTP logs on the IIS server I was getting File+system+returned+an+error with a code of 530, also when I tried to connect from a number of different FTP clients I also go error code 530.

After playing around, I found I made a obvious mistake.  If you open your FTP site and click on “Basic Settings” (see image below) you set your web site path here, the mistake I made was that here I put the domain path, ( i.e. I put \\myserver\path\ftp\mydomain the reason I did this was because my actual folder path is \\myserver\path\ftp\mydomain\username as you need a separate username folder to match your usernames under the domain folder, you don’t need the domain name in this path, that was what was causing my errors )

Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials

If your using Windows Vista or Windows 7 they both come with antispyware called Windows Defender as part of the operating system.  If you install Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows Vista or Windows 7 it will disable Windows Defender, but not uninstall it.   It's worth me saying that Microsoft Security Essentials is free for home users, so maybe worth downloading.

Windows 8 Is Here...Sort Of

Well this week the big news in the PC world is Microsoft Windows 8, this is the code name for the new version of Windows, will it stick ? who knows wait and see.

The developer version is out now and you can take a look if you so wish, the best place to find OFFICIAL information on Windows 8 is at the Microsoft developer forums, and they have set a dedicated one up for Windows 8 here as i am typing this I keep getting tempted to put a 9 in front of the 8 ! There is also a good Microsoft blog here that explain some build processes etc worth a read. If your still interested than have a read of this also.

As soon as I find out any other good Windows 8 news I will update the world as normal, might even install the developer version and give it a try one day, if my PC will handle it.

10 Years On From September 11th 2001

People say that there is going to be an event in life that most people remember where and when they was when the event happened in the world.  The event in 2001 happened on 11th September 2001 and was the terrorist attack on America.  Most people you speak to about this day will remember where they were when they heard the news.

On that day I was doing a major network upgrade at a site here in Stoke-on-Trent, it had been pre arranged and there would be no internet or  e-mail access that day as I was installing a new firewall.  I remember I started on site at 9am and as normal with these type of jobs things didn’t go to plan and the firewall didn’t work as it should have, after much playing around I started to phone the support company for the firewall.  I was tucked away in a small server room most of the day.  I can remember been on the phone to them and they said to me had I heard what had just happened in America I said no as I was unable to check on the internet or e-mail as it was not working.  I went into one of the offices and heard about it on the radio.

Later that day I got the internet and email working again, and managed to read what was going on and take a look at some of the images and video that was online.   That night I went home and stayed up all night watching the events of the day on various news channels such as Sky News, CNN and Fox News.  Most of it I did manage to record and have it on video tapes that I later transfered to DVD.

I would like to know your story, where were you that day can you remember what you were doing ?

Tunnel Trader - Review Part 3

Ok so this is the last and final review of John Pipers Tunnel Trader system.  I have had this for over 3 weeks now and tried it a number of times.  To me the book was not worth the money, as there is many empty pages, and many pages of life history that you dont really want to know, then there is the sections on how it works, it explains well how it works but not as much as how to do it, that bit is up to you.  And for it to work you need to fully understand what you have read.  Maybe it was me or maybe it didnt work who knows.
The other day I decided to send it back as i had no where near made the amount of money the book says you can make, yes at times I did make a little money but not much to talk about, in the end I lost more than I made.

When I did look to send it back it does not say anywhere in the guide how to send it back at all, which I guess they dont want you to send it back.  I sent there customer services a e-mail and after 2 days I had no reply, today I sent John himself a e-mail and I did get a reply back with the address to return it to.  So its going back in the post tomorrow (recorded delivery).  I will update again once I confirm they have returned my money.

The previous reviews were here and here

How To Speed Up IE9

So, if like me you installed IE9 and then thought that IE9 is running slow then this could be the fix for you.  I installed IE9 as I said in previous posts and have been using it for about a week now, all was ok but it did seem very slow, so I thought maybe its just using more memory and thats the problem, but after a little dig around on the net I found a fix that worked and now my IE9 is loads faster.

By default, Internet Explorer 9 uses GPU Rendering mode. However, some outdated video cards and video drivers do not support GPU hardware acceleration. If Internet Explorer 9 determines that your current video card or video driver does not support GPU hardware acceleration, Internet Explorer 9 uses Software Rendering mode.

Here is the fix, if it does not work for you then all you have to do is untick the option again and the settings will be back to how they were before.

  1. Start Internet Explorer 9.
  2. Click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
  3. On the Advanced tab, locate the Accelerated graphics section.
  4. Verify that the Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering check box is selected, as in the image below.
